This one's for everyone who wants to stop ____, but can't. Fill in the blank yourself. We all have our things. The things that eat at us, tear us down, make us less of ourselves. But somehow - at the same time - they're the things we can't stop.
St. Augustine's story has had a massive influence on my life. I hope the small slice of it you hear today can help you too. For under $10, buy a copy of his spiritual autobiography, Confessions: https://www.amazon.ca/Confessions-Saint-Augustine

Scientists get disciplines. Athletes get disciplines. Well - theologians get disciplines too.
Today, we're exploring these 5 fascinating areas of theological research/expertise.
This episode cannot only introduce you to these super interesting areas of theological study, it can also give you a glimpse into what professional theologians actually spend all their time doing - AND it can give you a roadmap for your own theological study.
Here is an essay from Andy Naselli that is more simplified than the one mentioned in the episode: https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/essay/theological-method/
And here is a link to the fuller, more complicated essay: https://andynaselli.com/wp-content/uploads/2023-D-A-Carsons-Theological-Method.pdf
Enjoy!

Have you ever seen a Christian make the sign of the cross? You might think this practice is a weird Catholic thing. But, when you look at the historical and biblical context for it, it looks a lot more like it's just a Christian thing.
In today's episode, we're digging into the roots of the sign of the cross. When did the church start doing this? Why did they start doing it? What does the Bible have to say about the sign of the cross? And what's the deep, hidden meaning in this simple ritual.

Jesus prayed for his church to be united in purpose just as him and the Father are united in purpose. When I look around at the church today and see thousands of denominations - it seems like we're failing pretty miserably.
Today, I get to sit down with Greg Thiessen, who teaches History of Christianity among his other awesome roles at Columbia Bible College. We discuss how the united Church of the New Testament split into the groups we see today, whether or not denominations are a bad thing, and why we all can't "just love Jesus".
Stick around to the end of the episode for a brand new segment: Hot Seat. I saved a super difficult question for Greg for the very end and put him on the spot. Basically, the question is: Can a person deny the Trinity and yet still be saved by Jesus Christ? Greg's answer is interesting, shocking, and something that requires a lot of reflection on my part. If you want to hear some of my post-interview thoughts on Greg's answer, listen to the separate bonus episode, Hot Seat: Can You Deny the Trinity and Be Saved?, which will be released after this episode.

Have you ever wanted to sit down with a Catholic and figure out just what they believe?
Today, I get the chance to have a conversation with Father Giovanni Schiesari, the priest at a local Catholic parish. We get to talk about his journey to becoming a priest, what Catholics think about the Reformation, whether we're saved by faith or by works, and lots more.
